A shoot’em up with tower defense elements, Turret Rampage is a game that is sure to activate any anxiety you have. Not to be confused with low quality, this is a fun score-based distraction if you took your xanax this morning.
Controlling a turret, it is your job to shoot all the invaders trying to enter your space. If you ever played Midway’s Tapper, it is basically the same gameplay, but you are placed in the middle and need to defend both the left and right sides simultaneously. Even though you only move the cannon up and down and simply shoot left and right, it all requires twitch reaction time.

Besides being a lone turret against an endless wave of monsters, the challenge comes from the type of enemies and the different shots that are available. Certain enemies can only be defeated with certain fire power, and some actually need an attack combo to take down. So not only do you need to prioritize targets, the player needs to remember which enemy is prone to which fire. Since the onslaught never stops, there is no time to catch your breath.
It is a simple game but with just enough depth to keep it interesting. Further, the online leaderboard keeps the competition constant. The simple pixel presentation is also well done, allowing the player to swap color palettes at any time with the tap of the shoulder button.
Even after you popped all the easy, high-point Achievements, Turret Rampage is one of those games you want to play every once and a while to claim a higher spot on the leaderboard. A round might only last a minute or two and the gameplay is simple enough yet addicting, making it easy to pick up and play whenever. Quality stuff here all at an affordable $5 price point.
