Microsoft has announced that Defense Grid: The Awakening, a 4-year old XBLA title, will be free from July 1 – July 15. This “free game” promotion is designed to combat Sony’s Playstation Plus program which offers several free games each and every month. Last month Microsoft offered Fable III for free to Gold members.
The good news is, Defense Grid is a great game and even offers DLC. It normally sells for 800 MS Points ($10).
A new free unannounced game will be available starting July 15th. Microsoft has promised Assassin’s Creed II and Halo 3 at some point but have not provided a release date.
In comparison, Sony is offering the following discounts this month for PS+ subscribers:
Uncharted 3, XCOM, Catherine, The Cave, Demon’s Souls, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD, Kingdom of Amalur, LittleBigPlanet Karting for PS3 and Uncharted Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, Sine Mora, and Rayman Origins on Vita.
