Moe Waifu H Push-Box

Moe Waifu H Push-Box (PS5) Review

Another low cost published by EastAsiaSoft, Moe Waifu H Push-Box is a short, simple, and very straightforward, but unfortunately, boring Sokoban game. Outside of the easy 30-minute Platinum trophy, there is little entertainment and replay value.

The 15 stages do not offer much of a challenge; I beat all except for two on my first try. There is an attempt to add excitement by including an unnecessary timer, scoring system, and a 3-lives mechanic but none of it means anything; there is no leaderboard and if you fail, you just restart anyway. Even the gimmick displayed in the title, the “waifu” aspect, doesn’t bring anything to the gameplay. In fact, if these PG anime drawings were removed entirely, this would be the exact same game.

Visually, the simple shapes, tiny moveable sprite, and no animation justifies the low price point. At best, the soundtrack is… odd.  There are only a handful of tracks, most of them casual and spa-like, but then one track is needlessly hard and stands out for the wrong reasons. The included Galley Mode, where you can look at the anime drawings in the same way as the gameplay, and the Jukebox feature, also do not add anything positive to the experience.

I have nothing against Sokoban games but there simply is no meat on the bone. The lack of replay value and gameplay means that only Trophy hunters are the only target audience for forgettable release.
