Changing It Up –
Nintendo has listened to customer feedback and just changed their Club Nintendo program by offering even more games starting this month. There are now four Wii U downloadable games available and four 3DS titles available for the August 2014 Club Nintendo program. As expected, most are Virtual Console titles but this is a good step in the right direction nonetheless. Strangely, there are no football titles available to celebrate the 2014 football season.
Here is this month’s summary:
Game #1 – Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES on Wii U VC)
Price – 200 Coins, normally $4.99
Availability – August 4, 2014 – September 7, 2014
Summary – The America sequel to the original NES title features Mario, Luigi, Toad and Toadstool.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – Sure, if you have extra coins to burn but you probably want to look elsewhere this month.
Game #2 – Excitebike (NES on Wii U VC)
Price – 200 Coins, normally $4.99
Availability – August 4, 2014 – September 7, 2014
Summary – Nintendo’s original NES dirt bike racer.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – If you can hold out for the 3D Classics version, you might want to pass on this title even though it is an entertaining game.
Game #3 – Starfox 64 (N64 on Wii/Wii U VC)
Price – 250 Coins, normally 1,000 Wii Points ($10)
Availability – August 4, 2014 – September 7, 2014
Summary – The fan favorite N64 starfighter.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – Starfox 64 was available as a Club Nintendo offering back in July 2013 for 200 Coins (50 coins less). If you do not already own this game, or the 3DS enhanced version, feel free to spend your coins elsewhere. Otherwise, this title should rank high on your list this month.
Game #4 – Vegas Stakes (SNES on Wii/Wii U VC)
Price – 250 Coins, normally $8
Availability – August 4, 2014 – September 7, 2014
Summary – A casino compilation consisting of blackjack, slots, craps and roulette.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – There are a million different casino sims out there, and you probably already own a few on your smart phone, so this is probably one of the games to skip this month.
Game #5 – Baseball (GB on 3DS VC)
Price – 150 Coins, normally $2.99
Availability – August 4, 2014 – September 7, 2014
Summary – The original Gameboy baseball game.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – Notice how this game is just called Baseball as opposed to Baseball (insert year here). It is a very simple game that neglects multiplayer mode. You are better off waiting for the original GB version of Tennis to become available.
Game #6 – Puzzle League Express (3DS eShop, DSiWare)
Price – 200 Coins, normally $4.99
Availability – August 4, 2014 – September 7, 2014
Summary – Connect the blocks through four single player modes.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – The most unique title this month is worth your Coins if you enjoy puzzle games and have extra coins to spare.
Game #7 – Mario Golf (GBC on 3DS VC)
Price – 200 Coins, normally $4.99
Availability – August 4, 2014 – September 7, 2014
Summary – Within an RPG setting, hit the links as you power up your character and eventually face off against popular Nintendo characters.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – Mario Golf is a spectacular game and is one of the best titles available this month. However, it was originally a part of the Club Nintendo program one year ago exactly so you might already own this title.
Game #8 – Dr. Mario Express (3DS eShop, DSiWare)
Price – 200 Coins, normally $4.99
Availability – August 4, 2014 – September 7, 2014
Summary – A barebones version of classic Dr. Mario that is single player only.
Worth Your Club Nintendo Coins? – While Puzzle League Express is probably the better puzzle game this month, Dr. Mario is still a solid title. Unfortunately, the limited options and lack of multiplayer might make you think twice.
