REVIEW – Swords and Soldiers 2 Shawarmageddon (Switch)

Now On Switch

Originally released on Wii U and then on PC, Swords and Soldiers 2 Shawarmageddon has made its way onto Nintendo Switch.

As a tug-of-war side-scrolling RTS, Shawarmageddon has its act together with entertainingly addictive gameplay.  Although action can be fast paced and hectic, players are always in control thanks to the organized control scheme, thoughtful UI, and clever enemy types.  The pacing is also well balanced as the game introduces the player to each type of soldier with a simple example stage so players can experiment firsthand without feeling confused or overwhelmed.  Since gameplay is also depicted through well animated 2D spritework, gameplay is manageable even for the player who normally shies away from the overwhelming nature of most real time strategy titles.

There is also a lot of content for a $14.99 digital download.  Besides the single player campaign that can take about a dozen hours, there are numerous multiplayer options including split screen and online.  The game is also playable when docked or in handheld mode using the touch screen, both modes offer intuitive controls. There is also a creative incentive to play the single player campaign as it unlocks more content in the multiplayer mode.

With fun and balanced gameplay, this is a tug-o-war that fans and newbies can appreciate and play together.  If you have not already played this game on Wii U or PC, this Switch version could be the way to go especially if you already have a Nintendo Online account.
