REVIEW – Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone

Always Live With Others

Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone is basically Left4Dead but played through a twin stick shooter.  While average gamers might find a couple of hours of entertainment through co-op play, this sequel to 2009’s original fails to distinguish itself from the currently popular twin stick shooter genre.

Even though each playable character has a unique special power and default weapon selection, the slow pacing, inability to dash or roll out of the way, straight forward level design, and horrific character dialog holds this game back.  Things like sharp difficulty spikes and the lack of checkpoints are alleviated when playing multiplayer but will surely frustrate when going zombie hunting alone.

The graphics are unimpressive as drab browns and dark shades fill each environment and the stereotypical character dialog will make you reach for the mute button before the first stage is completed.

Never Die Alone has some creative ideas but the finish product isn’t anything more than average.  If you wondered what L4D would play like if it was a twin stick shooter, you might want to check this out.  Otherwise, action junkies might be better off playing through the recently released and highly destructible Renegade Ops.
